​Canada’s Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentive program can be a powerful source of non-dilutive funding for research driven startups when approached strategically. This session explains how to identify eligible R and D, document scientific and technological uncertainty in line with CRA expectations, and avoid common compliance pitfalls.

​Designed with real startup constraints in mind, the webinar explains how SR and ED can extend runway, support technical teams, and fit into broader funding and commercialization plans. It also covers how the program works alongside grants, seed capital, and early venture financing, with practical guidance on building strong documentation, setting up financial systems early, and preparing for CRA reviews as you scale.

​This session is hosted by the University of Alberta and Sukhi Grewal, a strategic finance and R and D funding advisor who helps innovation driven companies leverage programs like Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax incentive program, government grants, and tax credits to fund research, strengthen financial foundations, and scale sustainably.

​With a science background, experience with Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and former roles as an Income Tax Auditor and SR and ED Reviewer at the Canada Revenue Agency, she brings an end to end perspective that helps founders align R and D incentives with growth, capital strategy, and commercialization.
