A Blackprint for the Future

The gala will feature a range of programming reflecting the depth of Black culture, including performances in dance, music, and literature; a fashion show; a Black student awards ceremony; dinner; a mocktail bar; a red carpet and 360‑degree photo experiences; and a vendor section showcasing Black‑owned businesses.
The gala is officially recognized by the University of Alberta, and the UABSA recently presented its work to the University Senate in recognition of its impact. People of all backgrounds are invited to experience an evening shaped by the richness of the Black diaspora.
This year’s theme, A Blackprint for the Future, reflects UABSA’s commitment to building intentionally. The theme honours the legacy of Black leaders while encouraging students to think critically about the futures they are shaping. It also aligns with UABSA’s yearlong theme, Building with Intention, and the larger federal BHM theme of future “Visionaries”.
Over the years, the event has welcomed notable guests, including former Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi, MLA David Shepherd, MLA Rhiannon Hoyle, University Chancellor Peggy Garrity, Dean of Students Ravina Sanghera, and Provost Verna Yiu.
