Learn Downtown: Tiny Acts of Community Gathering as Democracy
Wednesday, April 30, 2025
12:15pm to 1:00pm

We will follow top thinkers on building democracy in this time of polarization. Through our conversation, we will ponder why your tiny local reading club, art posse and walking group matter.
The routes of gathering are linked to democracy through relational capital. In a time of seductive misinformation that promotes anger and isolation, gathering and relating in real time with individuals in your local community can have a radical impact. We will explore thinkers from Alexis De Tocqueville, Byung Chul Han to the Massey Commission. Come and chew on some possible inspiration for you and your next tiny localised gathering.
This session is part of Learn Downtown, a City of Learners speaker series offering bite-size learning opportunities downtown. A complimentary lunch will be provided.
