Join us for Plastics, Health & Action, a special World Health Day screening of Plastic People, a powerful documentary exposing the hidden health risks of microplastic pollution.

Microplastics are everywhere—in our air, water, food, and even our bodies. But what does this mean for our health, and what can we do about it? Following the film, a panel of health, policy, and environmental advocacy experts will discuss the urgent need for action on plastic pollution and how we can protect both human and planetary health.

What to Expect:

  • Exclusive Screening – Watch Plastic People, an eye-opening documentary on plastic pollution.
  • Expert Panel Discussion – Hear from specialists in law, research, and public health.
  • Connect & Take Action – Meet local organizations in the lobby and discover ways to get involved.

Meet the Panelists
Our panel discussion will feature experts in environmental law, plastics research, and public health:

  • Melissa Gorie is a co-founder and director of Waste Free Edmonton, which successfully campaigned for Edmonton's single-use item reduction bylaw. She is also an environmental lawyer and law reform manager with Ecojustice Canada, where she leads the Circular Economy project, advocating for federal plastic pollution regulations and participating in the international plastics treaty negotiations.
  • Dr. David Locky is a wetland ecologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at MacEwan University. His research focuses on ecology, biogeochemistry, and environmental policy, with expertise in both natural and human impacts on ecosystems. One of his current projects examines the incidence of microplastics in aquatic environments.
  • Dr. Raquel "Rocky" Feroe is a retired physician and longtime environmental advocate with a passion for planetary health. She is an active member of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment's Alberta Regional Committee and has served on multiple environmental boards, including the Solar Energy Society of Alberta and Alberta Capital Airshed.

Let's come together to explore the intersection of plastics, health, and action—because a healthier planet means healthier people.
