Next to Normal is a 2008 American rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. The story centres on a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effects that managing her illness has on her family. The musical addresses grief, depression, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry, and the underbelly of suburban life.

Warning: Despite bouts of humor, content includes difficult themes such as mental illness, grief, and self-destructive behavior. Potential triggers include drug use, self harm, blood, and suicidal thoughts/actions. Other mature content includes some strong language and sexual references.
