Join us for a private screening celebrating Edmonton's West Indian Cricket legacy!

The sport of cricket in Edmonton has grown quite a lot in the last 10 years. Not only are there local organizations training players to compete on a national level, it's even being taught in schools across the city. But there was a time when the game was merely an unknown subculture for West Indian Immigrants.

On February 28, 2025 join us for the screening of the documentary Batting Beyond Borders - West Indian Cricket in Edmonton. The film, which was funded with support of the Edmonton Heritage Council, celebrates a forgotten time period in Edmonton when West Indians went from islands to the ice resurrecting a sport that almost died in Edmonton.

However, this film isn’t just about excellent athletes making Caribbean runs on Canadian soil, it’s about the community they fostered in making a home away from home. The wives and the children of the players were just as part of the team as the players were.

The night will include the screening of the hour long documentary and a panel discussion to follow with select cricketers hosted by Arlo Maverick. Finger food will be provided after the film and drinks can be purchased at the bar.

The screening will take place at the IMAX® theatre sponsored by the Telus World of Science - Edmonton in recognition of Black History Month.

Thank you!
