In an effort to compile a list of all the fiction nights available around Edmonton, it was discovered that there was a lack of opportunity to showcase the raw and seasoned talent thriving in our own community. In a world of open mic nights and poetry slams, the realm of fiction is often tucked into the drawer of the proverbial writer's desk and forgotten...until now.

WORDSTOCK is a culmination of conversations and discussions amongst a mosaic of writers across Edmonton. In partnership with the Writers' Guild of Alberta, organizers have produced an event to celebrate pure creativity of the written word. Non-fiction and poetry show us the beauty of the everyday, while fiction can be stretched, twisted, and remade into something more. Through the power of sheer invention, a whole fabricated piece, conjured from the ether, can bring a reader even closer to life's hidden truths.

From the darkest dungeons of Otranto's castle, to flaming attack ships off the shoulder of Orion, to a small snail trying to make its way across an English garden, fiction holds no single providence. Fiction is the field of unchained creativity. Fiction is the heart of WORDSTOCK.
