Join Alberta Craft, Saturday, October 19, 2024, for an opportunity to learn the ancient craft of coiled basketry with artist Tralynn Ganter. In this 2-hour afternoon workshop students will learn the fundamental techniques of creating a coiled basket with raffia. Learning the basic techniques during this class will prepare students up to create coiled baskets with varying materials and at different scales in the future. This workshop is intended for students aged 12 and up.
Tralynn is a local Edmonton artist and recent graduate of the Indigenous Entrepreneurship Diploma Program at Portage College in Lac La Biche. Tralynn is of mixed Cree, Métis, and German ancestry currently living in treaty 6 territory. Her works are her story of reconnecting to her indigenous roots. Talynn works with multiple materials and techniques such as intricate beadwork, caribou tufting, porcupine quills, fish scales, leather work, sewing techniques and basketry. Oftentimes, combining different forms to make beautiful mixed media pieces.
