From Risk to Resilience: The Edmonton Metro Region's Collaborative Journey

Join us at the University Club Edmonton as we examine how planners face an immediate imperative: how do we consider the impacts of a changing climate in municipal and regional land use planning decisions?
Across the country, the social and economic impacts of climate change are increasingly frequent and more acute, and these trends will continue if no action is taken. Learn about the critical intersection between climate change and land use planning, and the role planners can play to ensure our communities take proactive measures to identify and minimize our most significant climate risks. Speakers will highlight how the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board and its 13 diverse member municipalities, both rural and urban, are working together to advance both regional and local adaptation action, including the development of a regional climate risk and vulnerability assessment (CRVA). Climate resilience cannot be achieved alone, now more than ever, municipalities need to work together to move from risk to resilience.
Speakers:
- Avelyn Nicol, Manager Environment Services, Parkland County
- Seghan MacDonald, Climate Resilience Planner, City of Edmonton
- Taylor Varro, RPP MCIP, Manager Regional Growth Planning, Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board
