Featuring a post-screening discussion with Andrea Warner, author of THE TIME OF MY LIFE: DIRTY DANCING, hosted by Alexis Kienlen.

Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she’s disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby’s father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she’s determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.

Andrea Warner writes and talks. A lot. She’s the author of four books including her newest work, The Time of My Life: Dirty Dancing (ECW). An expanded and revised edition of her first book, We Oughta Know: How Céline, Shania, Alanis, and Sarah Ruled the ’90s and Changed Music, will be released fall 2024, also from ECW. Andrea is the co-host of the weekly feminist podcast Pop This! and an associate producer at CBC Music. Andrea is a settler who was born and raised in Vancouver on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.

Alexis Kienlen is a mixed race poet, journalist, and fiction writer who has lived in Edmonton for about 16 years. She is the author of four books, and a long-time lover of movies. The first movie she saw in the theatre was The Black Stallion.
