Celebrate the annual Biodiversity Challenge by planting trees and contributing to citizen science with Nature Alberta and Root for Trees!

About this event: In honor of the 2024 Biodiversity Challenge, Nature Alberta and Root for Trees are teaming up for an incredible evening of tree planting and citizen science on June 13th.

What to expect: We will split into 3 groups to rotate between Root for Trees' guided tree planting and weed pulling volunteer experiences and Nature Alberta's guided citizen science nature walk. With the Nature Experts from MacEwan University we will explore what citizen science is, why it's important, and add observations to iNaturalists for the Biodiversity Challenge.

What you need:

  • your own full water bottle and desired snacks
  • REQUIRED: sturdy, closed toed footwear to take part in tree planting efforts
  • appropriate attire for the weather
  • sunscreen and bugspray will be necessary
  • iNaturalist app pre downloaded on your mobile device (optional)

We will provide:

  • shovels
