Join City of Edmonton’s Bike Education Street Team for a bike ride through four communities, exploring the city together on two wheels!

Event Description:

Come roll with us! Join the City of Edmonton’s Bike Education Street Team for a group ride in South Edmonton. We will discover beautiful sights across 4 neighborhoods!

Our bike education and encouragement programs support Edmonton’s goal of 50 per cent of all trips to be made by active and sustainable modes of transportation as we grow to a City of 2 million.

What to expect from the ride along:

  • Better understanding of cycling rules
  • Introduction to cycling signage and Edmonton’s active transportation network
  • Tips to increase in your comfort and confidence when cycling

Meeting Time and Location

  • Date: Thursday, June 13, 2024
  • Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please arrive 30 minutes early to sign waivers.
  • Location: The ride will start and end at the Confederation Leisure Centre 11204 43 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6J 0X8 (see google map)

How We’ll Roll

  • The ride is about 8.3 km and will take us along shared streets, protected bike lanes and shared pathways. This is a slow paced group ride with many breaks to stop and chat about what we're seeing along the way.
  • The ride has space for up to 25 riders and will be supported by 3 to 4 City of Edmonton Bike Educators.
  • Adults and anyone under 18 years of age who is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian may join. Participants are required to sign a waiver before the ride and/or sign a waiver as a legal guardian of a minor.
  • The ride is suited for people who can cycle but have an interest in increasing their awareness of the active transportation network and confidence in cycling around Edmonton.
  • This ride is not well suited for people who would have difficulty riding 10 km. If your child is still using training wheels, a tricycle or a small bike, they may not be able to keep up with the group. Kids under 12 years old may have a difficult time at this event.
  • If this ride isn’t what you’re looking for, visitedmonton.ca/cyclingto learn about other opportunities for a wide range of abilities and interests.
  • Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation if their method of travel breaks down but we’ll be there to support you.

What to Bring

  • A helmet. Riders are required to wear helmets unless a head covering for religious reasons prevents helmet use.
  • A fully functional personal bike or e-bike. Tandems, e-tandems, child trailers or seats can also be used. In accordance with the Alberta Traffic Safety Act, the following prohibited devices are not permitted: One wheels, hoverboards and electric unicycles.
  • Snacks, water and clothing to keep you comfortable.
  • Dress for the weather. We suggest bringing sunscreens.

Cancellations

  • The City Led Ride Along will be canceled for extreme conditions. For example lightning, 50+ km winds, hail, or a seven (7) or greater risk for air quality, as reported by Environment Canada Air Quality Health Index.
  • The decision of whether to cancel an event will happen at least two (2) hours before the event and an email will be sent to all confirmed participants who have registered for the event.
