A yearly community recognition ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of exceptional First Nation, Métis, and Inuit women in Alberta.

Since 1995, the Esquao Awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit women from across Alberta. The Esquao Awards have grown to be the single largest recognition event of Indigenous women in Canada.

Co-founded by Marggo Pariseau and Muriel Stanley Venne, the Esquao Awards highlight the significant role Indigenous women hold in their home, in the healing and development of their communities, and in the building of Alberta.

Since the inaugural Esquao Awards, over 500 women from 93 communities have been honoured in what has grown to be the single largest recognition event for Indigenous women in Canada.

Each year, some 600 people from across the province and beyond attend the Esquao Awards Gala. Guests include members from all levels of government, Indigenous organizations, Métis and First Nation leaders, businesses, friends, and supporters.

Honouring the Indigenous women who are change-makers doing extraordinary work in their communities.
