A Business Community Action Summit, combating anti-trans legislation. Together, we shape a diverse, equitable and inclusive AB.
This event, hosted by the Alberta LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce, is a direct response to Premier Danielle Smith's recent gender identity legislation proposal, which has sparked significant concern within our community. As we are a provincial organization, serving members in multiple municipalities across Alberta we will be holding an additional event in Calgary on March 7, 2024.
Why This Matters to the Business Community:
The proposed legislation, if enacted, poses a direct threat to the safety and well-being of queer and trans youth. Beyond immediate safety concerns, the long-term psychological impacts of denying medically affirming healthcare are profound. The Alberta LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce asserts that these actions can have detrimental effects on the future entrepreneurs, medical practitioners, teachers, and public servants who contribute to a robust Alberta economy.
Our belief is grounded in the understanding that economic strength relies on supporting diverse communities. Queer and trans youth are integral to the fabric of our future workforce, and hindering their well-being damages Alberta's reputation as an inclusive province. Such legislation jeopardizes our ability to attract visitors, businesses, and families, ultimately weakening our economic standing.
This non-partisan event emphasizes the vital role the Alberta business community plays in advocating for inclusivity and diversity. We stand in solidarity with advocacy groups, community leaders, and 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations opposing this legislation.
