This hands-on workshop by Deaf actress Gaitrie Persaud will focus on the Lazzi Commedia dell’arte style of clowning.
Commedia dell’arte theatre that was popular in Italy during the 1500’s. It was recognized for being comedic, improvised, and having clear elements: characters are easily recognized by their movements, look, and mannerisms Performances based on scenarios with mostly improvised themes Use of mime, movement, music, and masks to tell the story, Commedia dell’arte has a lot of benefits for Deaf actors and hearing actors to explore through the communication with their body movement without depending on ASL interpretation and facial expression.
