About Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival

The enchantment of Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival is set to transform the winter landscape on January 20 and 21, 2024! Embrace the magic as we delve into this year's theme, "Under the Toad Stool," a joyous celebration of foraging and a nostalgic return to our Alberta roots.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant cultures that make up the fabric of Alberta Avenue District, including Ukrainian, French Canadian, Franco-African, Indigenous (Métis, Inuit, and Cree), Latin American, and Asian influences. Wander through our event to discover artistic creations, a homestead village, and musical celebrations that will delight your senses with music, art, and delectable treats. Marvel at the brilliance of light installations, the mastery of ice sculptures, and engage in street hockey matches. Don't miss the thrilling Deep Freezer races and other captivating winter artistic expressions.

We do not charge admission because we want the festival to be accessible to all. We welcome Edmontonians and visitors to Alberta Avenue for an inclusive celebration of arts, culture and tradition in the community that we love!
